The Vodouist, also known as a Voodoo Priest or simply a Priest, is a shamanistic type of Weaver who thrives in the outlands. They understand that Weaving is both a science and an art, deeply connected to the natural world. Vodouists recognize that Weaving, like nature, can be unpredictable and chaotic, but by embracing the chaos, they can tap into incredible power.

With a profound connection to the elements and the inherent chaos of nature, Vodouists can manipulate exotic matter in unique and unpredictable ways. Meditation

Through years of practising meditation techniques, you have learned to replenish your mental reserves more efficiently. This ability allows you to recover from mental strain at a faster rate than others. When regaining Strain points, you now double the amount restored.

Trade Secrets:

Calming influence: You have mastered the art of self-rejuvenation, this influence significantly reduces the time required for you to recover from mental strain.

Modifier: Decreases the recovery time needed for you and your allies to regain Strain points.

Mass Meditation: Your meditation skills have reached such a zenith that you can share the profound depths of tranquillity with another. By channelling your focus and energy, you grant an ally a fragment of your inner peace, bestowing upon them the benefits of enhanced meditation. This selfless act not only strengthens bonds but also fortifies the mental composure of your team.

Modifier: Spend one Luck point and share the benefits of meditation with an ally.

You must also be mediating to share this benefit.


Inner Focus

Your profound understanding of Weaving transcends mere technique, delving into the very essence of its craft. This deep-seated knowledge allows you the unique ability to reevaluate and potentially rectify your Weaving efforts. When faced with initial failure, you can choose to reroll one of your Weaving skill dice.

NOTE

This reroll mechanism is a one-time chance per pattern, meaning it can be applied to either the skill check to initiate the weave or the subsequent drain check, but not both. The outcome of the reroll must be accepted

Trade Secrets:

Introspection: Deepen your internal focus and augment your Weaving prowess. This heightened state of self-awareness enhances your control over the Weaving patterns, manifesting as an improved ability to execute complex weaves. Your inner calm and concentrated mindset translate into a tangible increase in your skill execution, making your Weaving attempts more likely to succeed.

Modifier: Adds a +1 bonus to your Weaving Skill dice.

Resilience: Your profound connection with the art of Weaving imbues you with a unique form of resilience. When a Weaving attempt taxes your mental state, your deep-seated focus and inner strength help mitigate the adverse effects. This trade secret can be taken up to four times.

Modifier: Disregard the penalties from 1 point of Strain.


Sense Storm

Your journey as a Weaver has attuned your senses to the subtle signs of impending Storms. This intuitive connection allows you to detect their approach through unique signals perceivable only to you, such as a specific scent on the wind or a peculiar tint in the clouds. This capability goes beyond mere observation; it's an intrinsic understanding of the atmospheric shifts, enabling you to identify not just the presence but also the type of Storm that looms on the horizon.

Trade Secrets:

Storm Sight: Develop your sensory abilities to a point where you can discern not only the approaching of a Storm but also its impending effects. This heightened awareness grants you a clearer understanding of how a Storm will interact with the environment and what consequences it may have. Such insight can prove invaluable for preparing and strategising well in advance of the Storm's arrival.

Modifier: Enables precise determination of a storm's effects without requiring a Weaving (Storms) skill roll.

Temporal Precision: Your connection with the elemental forces has sharpened to the extent that you can predict the exact moment a Storm will strike and, if it creates a breach, the duration of that breach. This detailed foresight allows for unparalleled readiness and the ability to inform and safeguard those in the storm's path effectively.

Modifier: Grants the ability to predict the precise timing of a storm's arrival and the length of any resulting breaches.


Hex

Actions: Full

By weaving small amounts of exotic matter, you can subtly influence a target's actions to hinder their success. This ancient practice, known as 'Hex', allows you to weave a pall of misfortune over an individual, skewing their fate towards failure. To enact this curse, you must mark a target, dedicate a full action to the task, and relinquish a Luck Point. Following this, the cursed individual's next skill endeavour is marred by misfortune, compelling them to accept the lesser of their dice outcomes.

In the beginning, you can only Hex those of advanced (animal) intelligence (See the intelligence scale for full description). While you can weave a Hex on numerous adversaries, each individual can only be subjected to your curse once. The target of your Hex can always ‘Burn a luck point’ to reroll a failed skill check (Note: Low level adversaries do not have Luck Points).

NOTE

Effective use of this ability requires visual contact with the target and proximity within four times your Psyche Trait in metres. Hex can be employed both within and outside the throes of conflict.

Trade Secrets:

Once a single trade secret is learnt you can then Hex creatures of Sentient intelligence. You also have the opportunity to enhance each of these trade secrets up to four times, amplifying their effects.

Evil Eye: Your mastery over weaving curses deepens, enabling your Hex to not only force the target to use their lower dice roll, but also to impair their skill efficiency further. With each glance, your gaze carries the weight of ill-fortune, manifesting as a tangible decrement in their abilities. This enhanced curse now lingers, allowing for repeated afflictions on the same individual, draining their luck and resilience.

Modifier: -1 penalty to the target's Skill rolls.

Enfeeble: The scope of your hexing abilities expands to affect not just the target's competence but their alacrity and reflexes. The shadow of your curse dims their perception and slows their reactions, reflecting in a diminished Initiative.

Modifier: -1 penalty to the target's Initiative.


Hoodoo

Actions: Full

This unique ability allows you to select a person within your sight to temporarily mitigate the effects of their injuries during conflict. By doing so, you enable them to ignore the penalties associated with up to four Wounds or a single minor injury, allowing for unhampered participation in the battle at hand. that while the pain may be held at bay, the injuries themselves persist, and their cumulative impact could still prove incapacitating per normal.

NOTE

To employ this ability effectively, you must maintain line of sight with the target and ensure they are no more than four times your Psyche Trait in metres away. A beneficiary can only experience this alleviation once per conflict.

Note, an individual can benefit from this alleviating touch but once during each conflict.

Trade Secrets:

Vital Surge: You have honed your Hoodoo skills to not only negate the penalty of wounds but also to invigorate the target, infusing them with a burst of vitality. This enhancement grants them a fleeting surge of energy and determination, pushing their physical limits until the conflict ends.

Modifier: Grants the target a bonus of +1 to any physical activity or active skill roll.

Soothing Presence: Your mastery of Hoodoo extends beyond temporary relief, imbuing your presence with a comforting aura that enhances the resilience of those around you. Through a subtle weave of exotic matter, you can bolster the spirits and mental fortitude of your allies, reducing the impact of their stresses and fears during the heat of battle.

Modifier: Negates the mental strain penalties, up to 4 Strain.

NOTE

At the end of the conflict or when the soothing presence is cancelled the effects of Strain occur straight away.


Animal Spirit Companion

Heeding the ancient call of the wilderness, you forge a mystical bond with a creature of the wild—be it a nimble sparrow, a secretive frog, or a watchful feline. Imbuing it with a spark of exotic matter, you create a unique bond. This creature becomes more than a familiar; it is a totemic spirit guide, an extension of your will and a silent ally in your quests.

Basic Bond: Through a harmonious blend of touch, gesture, or whispered word, you commune with your spirit guide, imparting simple commands it instinctively comprehends. Your bond with the creature allows you to communicate basic instructions as long as it remains within sight or earshot.

Unseen Partnership: As long as your familiar can see or hear your commands, your bond transcends, keeping your partnership hidden from prying eyes if you so wish.

  • "Stay vigilant, return to me if someone approaches" you whisper, and it perches on a high branch, eyes scanning the terrain.
  • "Retrieve that trinket," you gesture, and it slinks past unsuspecting guards, returning with the hidden charm.

Trade Secrets:

Ascended Guide: Infuse your spirit guide with additional exotic matter, you strengthen your bond significantly. This profound unity allows you to perceive through your guide’s senses, bridging distances with the spirit of the land.

The effective range of this sensory connection is determined by multiplying your Psyche Trait by 10 metres. You have the option to further extend this range. Each time you take this trade secret again, the distance extends by an additional length equal to your Psyche Trait multiplied by 10 metres.

Totem Spirit: Invoke the quintessence of your animal guide to embody its strengths, transcending physical bounds to augment your own traits. This invocation requires a spiritual offering, transforming respect into tangible enhancement, symbolising the deep reverence and connection between you and the spirit world.

Modifier: Spend 1 Luck Point, amplify the Trait your companion represents by one dice level for 1 hour.
